Susan Howatch in her novel, Scandalous Risks, describes a group of tourists visiting a cathedral in England. One of the tourists says after the visit:“Here I stood, in one of the greatest cathedrals in England, and it was no more than a Disneyland theme-park. God was absent. There was no whiff of holiness, no whisper of religion and not even a clergyman in sight.”
